Design on the Edge™ is a symposium at the University of Kentucky which brings together national and international leaders in interior design to address cutting edge design issues for the 21st century. In conjunction with the symposium, a furniture competition has been developed. Bittners, an interior design firm in Louisville. Kentucky and co-sponsor of the symposium, has a nationally acclaimed cabinet shop for the design and construction of distinctive furniture.

The first prize furniture piece will be constructed by the Bitttners Funiture craftsmen in Louisville, Kentucky. The piece will be on display at tge Design on the Edge™ Juried Furniture Exhibition to be held Fall. 1999 in conjunction with the 1999 Design on the Edge™ Symposium in Lexington, Kentucky. The piece and design will belong to the sponsors of the competition.

Design on the Edge™ invites all studens (3rd, 4th,5th year, and graduate) currently enrolled in an accredited college-level interior design, architectural, industrial design, or fine arts program that leads to a baccalaureate or master's design degree to participate in the 1999 Design on the Edge™ Furniture Competition and Juried Exhibition.

Students of the winning designs will receive the following cash prizes:

• First Prize $1,000
• Second Prize $750
• Third Prize $500
  

Institutional Prize

$1,000 for the Program Area at the winning student's institution.
