IALD

To Design, Lighting and Architecture Programs:

The International Association of Lighting Designers Education Trust Fund is pleased to announce the continuation of two programs that we offer to lighting design students: the IALD grant and scholarships program and the lighting design internship program. Please post the enclosed flyers in prominent locations and notify your students of the programs.

Scholarships:

The IALD Education Trust Fund is now accepting applications for the 1999 IALD Scholarships and Grant. The number of scholarships is yet to be determined.

Last year the IALD gave a $1,500 and $1,000 scholarship and, at a minimum, will give the same scholarships again. In addition, this year a grant of $1,000 is being sponsored by Architectural Lighting Magazine. Application information for both the scholarships and grant is enclosed. The same information is available from the IALD office or on the IALD website (www.iald.org).

All completed applications for the 1999 awards must arrive in our office by February 15, 1999.

Applicants for the scholarship must be students who are pursuing Interior Design, Architecture and/or Lighting design as a course of study(Students should have at least one lighting design course). The student will be judged on grades, extracurricular activities, a written statement about a personal experience with lighting and supporting artwork.

If scheduling allows, we intend to bring the winner of the IALD $1,500 Scholarship, at our expense, to the IALD Award ceremony which will take place May 12, 1999, in San Francisco, California.

Applicants for the grant need not be students. Grant applicants must include with their application an interesting and sound proposal for a non-commissioned research or design project in lighting, along with a schedule for completion of the project. Architectural Lighting may publish information on the grant upon completion of the project.

Internships:

The IALD Education Trust Fund coordinates internships in independent lighting design offices and lighting manufacturing firms. Positions are available worldwide and, although most are available during the summer, there are opportunities at other times of the year. Students may apply to be considered on the IALD web site at www.iald.org.

We have enclosed a background publication on the IALD and its members. Additional copies are available upon request.

Please contact Morag Fullilove at our headquarters if you have any questions about the programs.
